Domestic violence is when there is violent or aggressive behavior in a home, involving a partner or a spouse. Domestic violence is an important social issue to the world because children are seeing what their parents are going through during an argument which can lead to abusing the parent and the children. There are many other abuses that can be considered as domestic violence and they are known as sexual, physical, mental, emotional, and financial abuse. The consequences this social issue can have for the society is it has negative impacts such as stress, suicide attempts, anxiety, panic attacks, and many more. This abusive behavior is a choice the partner is making and is not obligated to do.

The reason why domestic violence is a part of strain theory is because they may have negative stimuli which can involve experiencing victimization. Domestic violence is a part of strain theory because in a relationship there is a person hurting the other person which involves negative responses towards each other. According to a textbook about strain theory and violent behavior, it discusses what strain is to an individual that is involved in a violent relationship (Agnew, 2012). This strain theory can result in a partner possibly passing away due to how many arguments there may be in the relationship that can cause domestic violence in it. When there is a relationship that is going through a domestic violence, there may be drug or alcohol use involved in it. According to a Netflix documentary, Killer Sally, two bodybuilders were in a relationship who were Sally McNeil and Ray McNeil, the guy in the relationship was shown as domestic throughout the relationship due to doing too much steroids.
