I believe everyone on this email thread was aware of my meeting today with Joe Baldwin, Guardian, of Kathy Rennich to discuss her recent return from inpatient rehabilitation at a local nursing facility and her expressed desire to move to the Hensgen Home. Basically, in February 2017, Kathy fell resulting in a fractured tail bone. She received inpatient rehabilitation at Care Springs for fourteen days and has returned home with PT services. Since her return home, Kathy has refused to participate in ADL’s (which isn’t a change in pattern as she refused prior to the nf stay) and is demanding that she have the opportunity to live at the Hensgen Home. Kathy’s reasoning behind wanting to move the Hengsen Home isn’t exactly clear to the team.
In the book One House by Charlyne Berens discuss the foundation of the Nebraska Unicameral. This book begins with the history of how the unicameral came about and what the idea was behind it. I think that this book is interesting and provided a great background to why the legislature functions the way it does. I learned that the support for the unicameral came from those people who supported the populist movement. According to Berens Nebraskans in 1914 were less partisan and more likely to split their ticket (p.7.)
Scott Russell Sanders’ passage from ‘Staying Put: making home in a Restless World’ gives readers the idea that roaming foreign territory and enforcing your ways is worse than staying put and adapting to your surroundings. Sanders achieves this mood through the use of parallelism, juxtaposition, rhetorical questions, and other rhetorical devices. Within the first sentence of the passage, Sanders paints a picture that Americans think that they are inherently good people, always the alpha of the pack that is the world. He describes our selfishness and need for acquiring more land as a ‘seductive virtue’, which can be found in lines 1-2. Sanders again pokes fun at the ‘American Lifestyle’ in lines 20-25.
The book I read was Empty Mansions by Bill Dedman and Paul Clark Newell, Jr. Empty Mansions is a biography telling the rags to riches tale of William Andrews Clark, a man who grew up in a log cabin and worked his way to a glorious mansion on Fifth Avenue. Throughout the biography, Dedman and Clark share the faded and forgotten memory American entrepreneur and politician, William Andrews Clark. While some historical figures in American History such as Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington are remembered by all, and even cherished through national holidays, other figures’ legacies are not so celebrated.
Every person has their own definition of home. In the story “The Round Walls of Home,” Dianne Ackerman is saying her home is the earth. She uses the word “round” because the earth does not have walls like normal homes, but the walls are the outside of the earth, making it round in shape. When most people describe their home they would mention the color of the walls, what sorts of belongings, and how many rooms. But, Ackerman describes her home as a, “big, beautiful, blue, wet ball.”
Diana George, a successful writer, and Professor of English at Virginia Tech Polytechnic Institute and State University wrote a textual analysis on the following Bell Hooks quote: “Constructively changing the ways the poor are represented in every aspect of life is one progressive intervention that can challenge everyone to look at the face of poverty and not turn away.” (675) George argues that the nonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity’s strategy of representing the poverty in order to receive donations and volunteers requires an adjustment, and is inadvertently impairing their cause as opposed to aiding (676). In Miami, the bungalow arrived as an option for moderate cost housing that was in demand due to the extraordinary overnight growth of the city in the beginning of the 20th century. With the arrival of the railroad in 1896, new business and residents started to pour into the city which started to grow speedily, especially across the Miami River. The 5 groups, Seneca, Oneida, Cayunga, Onondaga, and Mohawk, had be battling with each other for many years. Many had died and it had become enough for Hiawatha (Onondaga) and The Peacemaker Deganawidah (Huron). In c. 1150, they had decided it was time to join and create peace throughout the groups. They decided that clan mothers would chose the council chiefs or sachems. If these elected officials were not doing what they were elected to do they were given the power to remove officials.

The American Dream may be coined the source of Dreamers, but unless if one confronts the natural occurrences in the world, that ambition may be impractical. Jim Cullen, the author of the American Dream, defines its origins in order to discern the difference between the modern and historical origins. He introduces James Truslow Adams’ definition from The Epic of America, “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man” (7). When the founding fathers built America, the pioneers embarked a new desolated realm where their version of the dream had begun.
The story behind the Pruitt-Igoe housing project is one of systematic neglect and and oppression. It represents the shortcomings of the United States government to help its most impoverished Americans. Today, the Pruitt-Igoe housing project serves as a bleak reminder of how the country turned its back on its own citizens. The “myth” surrounding Pruitt-Igoe represents the mystery as to why the project failed as badly as it did.
My freshmen year at Indiana University was very much of a surprise for me personally. I learned several things about myself as an individual and what I want to do with my time at Indiana University. Bloomington is a buzzing college town that always has something going on. Most people associate Bloomington with Indiana University and never really look past that. My first few months on campus I never looked past the image of Bloomington as a college town but when I did it changed what I wanted to do with my time on campus.

He also acts as a fair debater by explaining Rushdie's claims, though he uses a critical tone to emphasize that unlike Rushdie, he believes that staying put is better than migrating.
