The genre of hip-hop has been evolving over the past years, Artists like Travis Scott and Don Toliver are pushing the boundaries of the hip-hop sound intermixing it with different genres such as R&B, Psychedelia, and Trap. Travis Scott has such an influence on the hip-hop scene. Travis founded and created the “Cactus Jack” label, which has numerous artists such as Sheck Wes, SoFaygo and Don Toliver. Don Toliver definitely got a lot of influence from Travis Scott and Travis Scott can be categorized as a mentor. When the “ASTROWORLD” project came out, this helped Don Toliver gain popularity in the music industry. After the “ASTROWORLD” project, Jackboys, the label that Travis Scott founded, decided to release a project in 2019 which featured Don Toliver on the project. The project was called “JACKBOYS” and this project displayed Don Toliver’s ability as an artist and established that he isn’t just a one hit wonder. Songs like “GANG GANG”, “HAD ENOUGH”, and “WHAT TO DO” helped put Don on the radar in the hip-hop community. Don dropped his first mainstream project “Heaven or Hell” which kind of set the foundation of his sound following in Travis Scott’s footsteps but following a more R&B approach, like Travis, Don heavily relies on autotune to distribute his sound. The thing that separated Don Toliver from Travis Scott is Don’s voice sounding more pleasant and lucious like Travis, Don had some big hits in his first project songs like “Cardigan”, “After Party”, and “Had Enough”.
