The presidential election of 2016 will go down in history as one of the most interesting elections of all time. Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump have changed the face of politics with their dramatic encounters and various scandals. Many millennials voted for their first time in this election and had to deal with the struggle to choose a candidate who will hopefully keep this country afloat. America voted Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States and he will have incredible duties and responsibilities to fulfill and one can only hope that he will be able to perform these duties. The job leaves almost no time for family or leisure time and it takes a special person to be able to handle this intense schedule. President Johnson’s schedule on this day allowed for him to have very limited time with his family, but he was able to fit it in briefly at 2:35 when he joined his wife’s tea group with a few other couples. Donald Trump has advertised himself as a family man, often appearing with his children or wife, so if he truly does consider family as a top value, he will need to work extra hard to fit that into his schedule. As president, he will also have to be able to keep most everything confidential which means keeping secrets from his wife and family which may be difficult. Lyndon B. Johnson spends much of the day on August 4th dealing with the war on poverty and the war in Vietnam, both of which he has to keep confidential. Until final decisions are made, he can’t rant about this bill to his wife or celebrate with her which could cause family to become distant. Johnson spoke with George Reedy at 11:34 a.m. where he learned that the unemployment percentage had dropped from 5.3% to 4.9% which is good news, but Johnson did not want that information to be finalized and released until after the vote on poverty that Friday. Donald Trump has not proven himself to be able to do this judging from his past, so I think that it is important that he take this advice to heart. Lyndon B. Johnson’s day is filled with more tragedy than joyful times on August 4th, but at the end of the day at 11:34 p.m. he has to stand up on live television and make his statement on Vietnam and he is able to do this calmly and efficiently which is what makes him a successful president. President Johnson had been taking phone calls and having meetings all day in regards to the Vietnam crisis making crucial military related decisions and gathering information on the issue so that he could report accurately to the public. Johnson receives a call from Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara at 9:43 a.m. regarding the possible second attack on U.S. destroyer Maddox and he receives several more calls from him throughout the day. I was impressed by the grace and level-headedness that Johnson uses with when he speaks with McNamara. Johnson responds to McNamara’s ideas and information by asking questions such as “what reason does he give for…” and “what objections do you have to… ”. This shows that Johnson was not only using his opinion to make decisions, he respects that others may have more knowledge than him in certain areas and he
