Donald John Trump, the current President of the United States, is the 45th President of the United States, who has been in office since January 20, 2017. From the very beginning, President Trump has faced many controversies revolving his presidency, from the things he says to the actions he takes in the white house as the President of the United States which affect the millions of Americans who live in this great nation. Furthermore, President Trump has never held office; he is a businessman, not a politician, he cannot run the government like a business. The Presidential election process begins with primary elections and caucuses then moving towards national conventions, where most political parties finalize their choice for their Presidential nominee (The United States Government, n.d.). The nominee also announces their Vice-Presidential running mate at this time (The United States Government, n.d.). The Presidential candidates then campaign across the country, explaining their views, opinions, and plans for current issues facing the nation (The United States Government, n.d.). Additionally, the candidates participate in debates with candidates from other parties (The United States Government, n.d.). During the general election, Americans go to the poll to select polls to select their favorite Presidential candidate and running mate (The United States Government, n.d.). But the winner is not decided by the tally of those votes—the popular vote—. Instead, the President is chosen by the Electoral College (The United States Government, n.d.).
