Many argue that Trump is not a “media creation” due to the fact that he is fundamentally unique. He is the only candidate that is funding his own campaign out of pocket. This is a big deal because he does not rely on campaign donors to fund his campaign. Therefore, he does not have to filter his views or beliefs about ethnic groups or the political system. Many believe that Trump represents everything they stand for because he voices many issues that people wish they could speak about, proudly. But many do not voice these controversial issues publically because they fear they will be labeled as racist or xenophobic in large social circles. He earned $487 million in media coverage or free press in the month of March alone. His media rating is at 99 out of 100 and is ahead of the sector average 71%. Trump is preforming better online compared to his Republican contenders and the Democratic candidates. Table 3 demonstrates Trump’s track record for the month of March. According to table 4, in March Ted Cruz ranked number 2 in earned media value of $220 million. In overall media rating of 96, Cruz falls behind one point to Hillary Clinton and is tied at number 3 with Bernie Sanders. Cruz was able to maintain a steady rating performance due to the Bush and Rubio dropping out of the race. Though, he falls behind the sector sentiment, his media rating is on the rise at a steady pace. According to table 5, John Kasich’s media rating is also on the rise. He ranks at a new high 89 after Rubio. What is interesting about Kasich is that many people expected him to suspend his campaign after the Wisconsin Republican primary but he did not give out. As a result, his media ranking increased two points and his popularity increased across social media
