The duration of this book is over a period of a month's, essentially the beginning of summer to the beginning of fall. Matilda Cook is the main character and works in a coffee shop, her mother, Lucille , and her grandfather own.
I read the book Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. This story is about a girl named Mattie who lives with her mother and grandfather. In their house they run a coffee shop that they all work at, Eliza is a women that is a good friend of the family who works at the shop and cleans the house. Everything is going good until the yellow fever comes to the little town they live in. Hundreds of people were dying every day.

Their reasons for living clean, moral life is because they believed that they would not only be judged for what they did in their mortal life, but also in the afterlife. Although they believed that god had predetermined who was going to heaven and who was going to hell, they thought that if you did not follow the word of god, it would lead to ultimate damnation.
Bad things happen to good people. A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket, is a story about the orphans that are in a bad situation. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire parents died in a fire while Count Olaf is trying to steal their fortune. They escaped Count Olaf and got to safety for a little. They learned that bad things happen to good people too.
Imagine walking down an empty, gloomy street deserted of people, engulfed with death, tingling with the sorrow for lost loved ones, and blanketed with the feeling of uneasiness and fear. Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson describes this world that the protagonist, Matilda Cook, a fourteen-year-old, lives in during the 1793 Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia. The book outlines her life and how her personality and feelings dramatically change during the few months of the fever. Towards the beginning of the book, she is lazy and does not enjoy working, but in a few months when the fever turns her life upside-down, she has to mature and work extremely hard to survive.

In 1793 Yellow Fever broke out in Philadelphia just like it did in the book. In 1793, there would only be free walking blacks in Philadelphia because of the Quakers of this time period. Eliza is an example of one of the free walking blacks in Philadelphia.

It took the lives of 5,000 citizens . Matilda’s story may have been fiction however for many people this was very real . In the novel “Fever 1793” by Laurie halse Anderson, Matilda finds herself struggling with the fever.
In life, people find different ways to cope with their issues. This is the case in “Vaclav and Lena” by Hayley Tanner, where the main characters Vaclav and Lena face many obstacles, but use their imaginations to help them deal with the struggles they face in reality. This relates to the quote “Imagination is the one weapon in the in the war against reality” by Jules de Gautier, because Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of better things to come, to ignore the problems they currently face. Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of the future to forget about their issues momentarily, and to be able to postpone dealing with them.
Extended out to most children is the hand of a parent offering a warm hug along with warnings of danger to their children. This is what any fit parent would do. However this is not always the case with all parents. For example in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Rose Mary and Rex Walls are not fit to be parents because they don’t give their children what they need and have an unstable relationship. Jeannette and her siblings live off of what their parents can afford when they have sufficient money but they don’t use it to give them what they need.
In the book Glass Castle, Jeannette and her family don’t let all of the circumstances around them stop them from dreaming any smaller. Perseverance is the persistence of taking action, especially in spite of difficulties. Perseverance is overcoming the tough things in life, and not letting them get the best of you. In fact, for the most part, the Walls’ kids all worked a little harder to reach their goals. Lori, Jeanette, and Brian save up money so Lori can pursue her life outside of Welch, and move to New York City.
Political Death Politics is fueled by corruption. It causes government-involved citizens to use their power to manipulate others to achieve what they want. In All the King’s Men, written by Robert Penn Warren, Warren distributes politics to show how Willie Stark transformed. His character gradually deteriorates as a person throughout the political novel leading up to his death. Warren writes to exemplify politics and how it ruined the lives of well-rounded people.
Not ever negative situation leads to an unwelcome outcome. Flannery O’Connor introduces how conflict changes a character for the better in her short story “Revelation”. The main character, Mrs. Turpin, likes to categorize the people she meets base on their looks and possessions. She is suddenly attacked by a patient named Mary-Grace, who is then quickly sedated. However, before the medication takes effect Mary-Grace leaves Mrs. Turpin with an insult that leaves a lasting impression that causes the protagonist to think deeply about herself as a person.
Arthur Dimmesdale was the town minister in The Scarlet Letter, a story of a young woman who committed adultery and faced the consequences, such as wearing a scarlet “A” on her chest. Dimmesdale was a very interesting character because he was very religious but also committed a sin that haunted him everyday. He also happened to be the man who was involved in the young woman’s adultery. He was never convicted, however he still faced the consequences everyday. Dimmesdale was a man of God.
