He was a good man who was fighting for what he believed in and it’s tragic that he had to die for it, but now he’s seen as an inspiration and a leader. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in room 306 at Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tennessee. He was rushed to St.Joseph’s Hospital, but died at 7:05pm.
On April 4, 1968, Dr. King Jr. was assassinated by a sniper outside his hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee. His death, along with robert Kennedy was a major loss in Civil Rights’ leadership. Robert Kennedy was a former attorney general and presidential candidate who was assassinated shortly after winning California presidential primary with a campaign that pledged to bring the races together. After Dr.King’s death people to be shocked and outraged, resulting in riots in more than 130 cities.
On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King was shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee and was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. The shooter was believed to be James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray did kill Martin Luther King, because of his confession, physical evidence, and opportunity motive. Within a few days of confessing, James claimed he was innocent and starting saying how a guy named “Raoul” set him up. There wasn’t enough evidence to prove that a “Raoul” existed and had shot Martin Luther King Jr, which is why James was still charged guilty.
On June 8, authorities captured the man that was believed to be Dr. King’s assassin, the small time criminal James Earl Ray. He was captured in London’s Heathrow Airport. Eye witnesses said they saw Ray fleeing from a house near the Lorraine Motel carrying a bundle. Prosecutors said that Ray fired the bullet that killed Dr. King from a bathroom in the building. Ray’s fingerprints were found on the rifle used to kill Dr. King, also on a scope and a pair of binoculars.
On April 4, 1968, a 39 year old man was murdered. This man was Martin Luther King Jr. King spent much of his life fighting for equal rights for all people. Although everything he did was peaceful, he still ended up in bad situations. On 29 occasions, he was arrested.

This did not stop him from fighting for what he believed was right. Even after many threats and incidents, Dr. King continued to push hard to achieve what he set out to achieve and he did just that. Sadly, on April 4th, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The world was in shock, King was a very respected and powerful man to many people so his death brought on much sadness. Dr. King fought hard to bring equality to all people.
She eventually got arrested, but motivated a boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. What swayed the votes towards Kennedy was when after King Jr. was arrested, Kennedy called Mrs. King and offered his sympathy. While Kennedy was offering his sympathy, his brother, Bobby Kennedy, called the judge in charge of King’s case and got him released from prison. King then said “I’ve got a suitcase of votes, and I’m going to take them to Mr. Kennedy.” King changed the political campaign tremendously by pretty much not even giving Nixon a fighting chance.
Even though James Earl Ray disagreed with Dr. King’s beliefs, Dr. King’s assassination was unjustified because he was unarmed, trying to end segregation, and practiced non-violent social change. What do you think of when you hear the name Martin Luther King? Do you think of a generous man who wanted equality for all? Do you think of the man who not only fought, but died so that every last one of us could be equal? Martin Luther king was a baptist minister and social activist who died on April 4, 1968.

As I have continued to carry on my passions in the school community and through extracurricular activities I believe I will be able to do the same at Saint Francis. One of the many things I am passionate about is soccer, and other sports. I enjoy being a part of a smaller community with the same interest, and passions. I am also interested in being a part of the other clubs at Saint Francis such as photography, baking club, and being a shadow host. One of my favorite activities is to play soccer, I have been playing soccer since a very young age.
