Travon Martin testimony was done by Rachel Jeantel. She was a 19 year old girl 19, who was on the phone with Martin just before he was fatally shot. Chapter nine, about halfway through the novel, is a discussion of the life of a man who closely paralleled McCandless in his passion and lifestyle. Krakauer opens the chapter with a quote from Wallace Stegner describing Everett’s passions: “What Everett Ruess was after was beauty, and he conceived beauty in pretty romantic terms. We might be inclined to laugh at the extravagance of his beauty-worship if there were not something almost magnificent in his single-minded dedication to it. Aesthetics as a parlor affectation is ludicrous and sometimes a little obscene; as a way of life it sometimes attains dignity. (61)”
He found the first “reliable figure” for π(pi) (Source A). In ancient Greece, the crude number system was very inefficient, and Archimedes made it easier to understand and count to higher numbers (Source B). Finally, he used the first known form of calculus while studying curved surfaces under Euclid, not to be later worked on for 2,000 years by Isaac Newton (Source A).
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, born in New Canton, Virginia, is one of the first African-Americans to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. As a published historian and founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (later the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History), Woodson lobbied and encouraged schools to participate in programs that cultivated the study of African American history. The programs began in February 1926 as Negro History Week. He selected February to honor the birth months of abolitionist Frederick Douglas and President Abraham Lincoln.
Throughout the Autobiography of Malcolm X there are several key events the bring out the central ideas of the text. Some examples of the key events was when Mr. Ostrowski lectured Malcolm, when Malcolm was in jail and he learned the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, and when Malcolm made his pilgrimage to Mecca. A closer look at the central ideas would show that they build on one another. When Malcolm was going to school his teacher, Mr. Ostrowski, told home to give up his dream of being a lawyer,” Malcolm, one of life’s first needs is to be realistic.
In my opinion from reading the conviction of Hiawatha Robinson case, I honestly think that he was guilty of the murder of his 8- year old daughter Hiawayi. The FBI and police had gathered so much information on Hiawatha that they could finally charge him of 1st degree murder of his daughter. The FBI had fingerprints, phone records, and even witnesses saying that Hiawatha was the last person to see his daughter alive. To murder your own daughter I think you have to be heartless and evil, especially a child he age of eight. Everyone expects Robinson to be sentenced to life in prison, meaning if he was eligible for parole he would get it after spending 24 years in prison first.
The student retorts, “we talk about what’s true, what’s important, what’s good. Well, how do you teach people to be good?” (p. 2). She also wonders whether Emerson would have “any ideas about what to do about what was worrying him-or did he think he’d done enough because he’s spelled the problem out to the Harvard professors?”
Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a slave. He was also a grandson of a slave. He completed school in 1923. He went to black Lincoln university in Pennsylvania.
Paul Robeson, also knows as the “Renaissance man”, lived in a 13 story apartment with his family after his return from living in Europe. He was a civil rights advocate, actor, and a singer, However when attending Rutgers University he was an athlete, and very smart. Paul had been accepted as a black artist until World War Two. During the war he sang songs for the troops, however even though he was trying to help, he began to be unaccepted. He had many supporters and haters over the years.
I believe that yes in this case the government overstepped the line of setting a trap for the unwary innocent. Jacobson was target because of the magazines he had previously order, however, it was still legal at that time. The government would send fake letters with the purpose of trapping someone. The government took two and one-half year, trying to persuade Jacobson into committing s crime. Jacobson would clearly display that he had no interest in underage males; he was only into males in their 20’s.
The first student to speak up said “ Greastest is the one with the most and the one with just one would be the least “ “ Now class do you all understand what Jackson is saying”? “ Yes, may I point it out to the class Mrs. Smith”? Jackson was able to not only tell the class what he believed was greatest to least but also show by example. Many if the children understood more once Jackson presented by example to the class.
Though he is still seen as a controversial figure, I believe that Malcolm X was one of the most compassionate figures in history. He once said, “I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.” I really admire how he fought for what he believed in. Initially, I learned about Malcolm X in my AP English Language class, but I was reintroduced to his influence on the modern day black society in my college history class. Prior to being reintroduced to his philosophy in my college history class, I thought that X was a violent, racist man.
When I first read about the Malcolm X, it reminds me on some of the Sahabat of Prophet Muhammad that had made so many sacrifices in order to spread the truth of Islam. From the first paragraph I have read about this man, I can see that he had gone through a hard life for being isolated because of the skin color. Of course, in these days, being racist is such unacceptable thing to do regardless the religion. If we take this matter from the moral perspective, racist is injustice act and this will lead to violation of human rights. Racist also might lead the extremist to be more aggressive and the safety of the country is somehow has been unsafe.
