Perception is a person’s mental impression or understanding on someone or something. A person’s perception can be changed by many things such as works of art, literature, and other people's opinions. My perception about dreams and love has been influenced by poems. The poems that have influenced my perception on dreams are “Dreams Deferred” and “Dreams” both by
Langston Hughes, and “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe has influenced my perception on love. The author’s use of similes and metaphors in “Dreams Deferred” and “Dreams” has influenced my perception about dreams and the author’s use of allusion and repetition in “Annabel Lee” has influenced my perception love. Langston Hughes use of similes in “Dreams Deferred” have impacted my perception on dreams by making dreams relatable in the poem. The similes in lines 2,3,5,7, and 8 of the poem “Dreams Deferred” help me understand what a dream that has been put off by yourself or other circumstances can feel like.
