The dress code policy helps boost self-confidence. According to Abraham Rutchick (2015), a professor of psychology at California State University, “putting on formal clothes makes us feel powerful, and that changes the basic way we see the world”. Rutchick’s statement applies to the business attire segment in the dress code policy. When students wear their respective formal clothes, they feel good about themselves because of the positive response they get from the people surrounding them. This is because our fashion choices can have an impact on our self-image, the impression that we convey to others and also, the way people around us behave (Hill and Barton, 2005). According to an online article entitled 5 Reasons Why Wearing A Proper Uniform is Important (2015), the use of uniforms, can unite everyone regardless of social status which creates a feeling of oneness among those following the dress code. In this statement, we will objectify social status as the students belonging to different organizations in the college, as defined by their course. When a student enters a classroom and observes the blending in of the various program groups, as identified by their respective shirts, the student will feel the idea of living together in harmony. Not only that, an article entitled School Dress Code Pros and Cons List (2015), expresses how students will be able to concentrate better and see each other more as equals. Conflicts will be avoided because of the friendly interaction that these groups have among each other, and also, disparities will be reduced because students will see other students on the same level as them, thus building a social balance funded by equality. Because of the pattern of dressing and the required respective attires, a student will no longer worry about what to wear for the day. As stated in the article School Dress Code Pros and Cons List (2015), having a dress code lessens the time that the student spends in trying to pick out their clothes for school, which gives more time for activities such as eating breakfast, doing assignments and arriving at school on time. The student’s focus is now centered on other relevant and important things rather than trivial matters which only delay his or her actions towards the day. With the dress code policy, a student will no longer feel anxious about his or her respective clothes because of the awareness it brings; that the student is part of a group or is one with a lot of people. This lessens differentiation and nervousness, which then results to the student being able to do his or her list of activities.
