We all know driving while intoxicated is dangerous, right? If you were driving home and a person in front of you was intoxicated you wouldn't feel safe right? Driving while intoxicated increases your likelihood of crashing by 11% (Texting and Driving Statistics). Did you know that while texting you are 23% more likely to crash (Texting and Driving Statistics)? That's double the percent while driving intoxicated. If distracted driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving, then why isn't the punishment the same. Driving while distracted causes you to lose focus on the road the result a much higher crash probability. On July 21 2015, Carlee Bollig a 17 years old teen was texting her friend while driving one night when her friend replied to her, "stop texting and driving". Bollig then texted her friend, "I don't care if I crash". After that Bollig ran a red light while texting and t-boned a van containing Charles P. Maurer, 54, and his daughter Cassy killing both of them (Star Tribune). According to authorities Bollig never applied the brakes which shows how late your reaction time is when you're distracted. Three friends of Bollig were injured but survived, this shows how irresponsible some teens are. Bollig put her friends lives at risk, and ended two other people’s.
