A Dangerous Mix Happy hour. Bars. Drunk driving. Accidents. In Brazil, during a long time this sequence was common and without punishment. For being one of the biggest consumers of beer in the world, Brazil has faced serious problems. The combination of alcohol and driving is serious, almost always resulting in accidents or deaths. To change this situation, as a solution the Brazilian Federal Government implemented the Dry Law in 2008, legislation that provides more precision in the detection and punishment of drunk drivers. The law was necessary to reduce the number of accidents and it is important to maintain and intensify the inspections, and increase educational campaigns about the alcohol effects in the human life. Over the years the implementation of the law has already brought positive results to the country, for example the average of drunk drivers has decreased in about 40%. Furthermore, according to the Federal Police from 2008 to 2012 the number of people killed in accidents fell from 30% to 18%, a considerable drop.
