Hypothesis: Duckweed grows best in water with a pH similar to drinking water.
Aim: To test the best water conditions that duckweed grows in. Duckweed usually grows best in fresh water. I will be testing which pH level duckweed grows best, in order to determine whether or not duckweed

I will be testing to see if this is true, whether or not there are any indications (on/from the plant) that state otherwise, and if so, what these are in order to warn those who seek to drink the …show more content…

Certain elements such as the 2nd degree equation and the 5th degree equation are needed in order to describe the rate of growth of the different species of duck weed along the pH gradient http://www.researchgate.net/publication/234009001_the_effect_of_pH_on_the_population_growth_of_species_of_duckweed_Spirodela_oligorrhiza_LLemna_minor_and_Wolffia_arrhiza Source 2 : Lemna (Duckweed) as an indicator of water pollution. I. The Sensitivity of Lemna paucicostata to heavy metals. There are many different plant and animal species that change their appearance when there may be the presence of a substance that causes pollution. These are known as indicator species. Many different land plants are used to indicate are used all over the world as indicators for identifying air pollution. Algae, insects, shells and fish are all used as indicator species to determine the pollution in water. These are used to measure the levels of pollution in the water. The optimum temperature and pH for duckweed to grow in which it can still detect and indicate the presence of heavy metals is 25 degrees and a pH of 6.1 – 7.1
