Having worked as a Medical Technologist in highly technologically advanced Clinical Chemistry department at Detroit Medical Center, made me realize that Information Technology was where I wanted to focus my career. After graduating from Oakland University in 2010 with a Bachelor's in Health Science, I joined DMC lab as a technologist because I wanted to learn about medical instruments and their technology. As a Medical Technologist, I process blood, urine and other body fluids on advanced chemistry and toxicology analyzer to aid physican in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. I operate automated and computerized instruments capable of performing a larger number of test efficiently and accurately. These instruments can automate complex decision making process for technologist and provides necessary information in real time to improve the decision making. With the help of technology the system can go through major transformation to contain the cost, improve access and provide quality care. Physicians’ orders are entered electronically rather than on paper using Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE). All patient medial are stored in Electronic Health Record (EHR). EHR is a digital and portable version of paper which can be accessed remotely by any providers. Unfortunately in our lab paper trial is still being used even though it can be done all electronically. One example is when physician orders or add test electronically, we as a lab are still required to have requisition in paper. I want to develop a policies and method so that we can just get rid of paper completely. This causes our lab to spent enormous amount of time, money and resources on data cleaning rather than on improving patient
