Both class discussions and chapter 5 in the book “Education the Practice and Profession of

Teaching” has allowed me to gain knowledge of historical and current trends in policies and

practices that affect early childhood and childhood educators because in the reading the authors

speak in depth about social reform with in education, they tell about how policies were created

and how they influence our education now for example in the text there is mention of attendance

laws that protected children by educating them and keeping them from working. From the

reading I also learned about ESEA which made federal government responsible, this act provided

Our online blogs was essential in helping me extend and further develop knowledge and

understanding of theories and content of curriculum and teaching and varied models and

methodologies for early childhood and childhood settings through the use of media and

technology because using videos I was able to see “Phases of a lesson” versus reading about it. I

was also able to see other videos like “Routines and Procedures” that shows the cues to look for

when teaching, seeing such videos made some of the theories we read about relatable as it was

happening before our eyes. Furthermore, using the online blogs, we were also able to see how

smartboards serve in teaching as well as the functions they provide for both students and

teachers. Another activity that contributed to my understanding was field work observation

because I was able to interact and watch how curriculum varies in a classroom setting.

Both my field notes topic questions and my classroom observation report contributed to my

understanding as well as allowed me to improve my observation and documentation skills and
