While the death of a beautiful woman is the central theme in this text, Annabel Lee presents a deeper concept of eternal love through the use of imagery and other various elements of poetry. Visual imagery allows Poe to build a significant connection with the reader and become more involved through the use of strong, vivid language. For instance, such as “the wind blew out of a cloud, chilling…” convey the narrator’s feelings by using elements of nature and expressions that are communicative to engage one’s tactile sensory due to words such as “chilling”. This further enables the reader to gain a better understanding of the narrators devastating

Edgar Allen Poe Edgar Allan Poe is known as one of the most brilliant and original writers in American literature. He was the father of horror and the father of modern detective. Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston, Massachusetts, some experts said that poe was high on Neuroticism, Neuroticism is one of the big-five high order personality traits, the person with high Neuroticism are more likely to get moody, angry, anxiety, worry, fear, loneliness, jealousy, guilt, depressed mood. This is in my opinion why poe writes about horror, murder and other gothic themes. Gustavo Adolfo Becquer was born in Seville in 1836, at the age 21 Becquer is infected by tuberculosis with à growing pessimism, but his patroness and brother help him go through it, and it was in the same year that he set himself à huge goal which was about “Spanish Christian art, combining religious ideals, architecture, and history. However,
‘Annabel Lee’ by Edgar Allan Poe is an eminently beautiful yet tragic poem centred around the theme of a forbidden love between two people, and the many obstacles that they overcome in order to be together. At the same time the poem relates back to a man’s undying love for his wife in which even death is unable to hinder. From the beginning of the poem, I realized Poe to be an articulate person who has a beautiful way with words, as he describes the origin of his love story between himself and Annabel Lee. This was shown in Stanza 1 where I identified him to be a kind and doting person, as he continues to talk about a maiden from the kingdom by the sea whom only wished to love and be loved by Poe. As this was written by Poe and shown from
In her tomb by the sounding sea” (40-41). This tells us that Annabel Lee is deceased and when someone talks about a death it is sad. “The wind came out of the cloud by night, / Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee” (25-26). This, also being from “Annabel Lee” Poe writes because he believes the angels in heaven killed her because their love was too strong and so they were jealous. This gives a sad tone because again, Poe talks about her death.
Though Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories like, The Cask of Amontillado, to his poems like, The Raven, Poe’s shows his writing style to use physical imagery and connotative syntax to show ,imagery in his writing. Throughout his life, Poe had always lived through the most chaotic and evil of time. His parents died while he was 3 years old. After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.
Of all gothic writers, Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most groundbreaking of them all. From The Cask of Amontillado, a story with integrated historical references of the time, to The Fall of the House of Usher, a deep and morbid story full of imagery. Anywhere from The Tell-Tale Heart, truly a story of both unique syntax and perspective, to The Raven, a poem full of symbols and eerie repetition. Through these and many more, Poe has been using his writing style to immerse people into his stories and poems alike since 1839. However, Poe is only able to accomplish this through his unique writer’s style, particularly his forceful imagery and meaningful syntax.
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most notable poets as he has had many powerful and creative pieces that became very popular. As a young boy he had many problems growing up Poe lost his mother when he was only sixteen and left to fend for himself. Throughout his life he was a hopeless romantic who got into a lot of relationships. One of the most known relationships that he got into was with Annabel Lee in which he had created as his last poem before his unexpected death, Annabel Lee. At the time he wasn’t only mourning the death of Annabel Lee but also the death of his wife a few years back which is the reason that he wrote The Raven.
His unique style terrifies many to the core. His dramatic twists keep the reader on edge and he is known as the “Father of the American Detective Fiction”. The “detective fiction” is subgenera, which involves a crime, a mystery, usually a murder, and a detective to investigate that crime or murder. It became popular during the 1840’s because of Edgar Allen Poe. His is known for his frightening tales of death, murder, insanity, and suspense.
