Edgar Allan Poe is a Boston native that grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Born January 19, 1809 in Boston to Elizabeth Arnold Poe and David Poe, Jr. In 1811 Poe father had abandoned him and his mother. Leaving her with all three children. They was already a very poor family. Soon after that Edgar Allan Poe mother died of tuberculosis. Days later his father died of the same disease. The Poe family had all been splited up and adopted by different families. A couple named John and Frances Allan adopted Edgar, and thats how he got the name Edgar Allan Poe.
