Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809, Boston, Massachusetts, he was a short-story writer, poet, critic, and editor. Poe was the son of actors, but his father left his family when he was young and his mom followed to die when he was the age of three. After the death of his mother Poe was separated from his siblings and went to live with John and Frances Allan. There he lived on a tobacco farm which was located in Richmond, Virginia which led him to go to the University of Virginia in 1826. While he was in college he found that he couldn’t fully afford it so he picked gambling and ended up in deep debt. Then after becoming in deep debt he returned back home to the Allan’s to where his fiancé had left him for someone else. Poe around this time joined the Army because he wanted to go to West Point a military academy. Before Poe was able to reach West Point in 1830 he had wrote another series of books known as Al Aaraaf and Minor Poems. Even though at West Point, Poe excelled in his studies he was still kicked out. After being kicked out Poe finally decided to become a full time writer. After becoming a full time writer Poe moved around from large city to large city in search of opportunity to be successful. He finally slowed down for four years in Baltimore with his aunt before he would finally head back to Richmond
