Edgar A. Poe had a very short, but odd life. He went through a lot and did a lot. Edgar Allen Poe was born on January 19, 1809. His father left him and his mother died when he was four. He lived with his adoptive parents John and Frances Allen. John Allen was a tobacco merchant and so Edgar grew up as a very successful tobacco merchant also. In 1826 Poe went to the University of Virginia. He published his first book in 1827, ‘Tamerlane and other poems’. Shortly after his first book had been published he went to the army. He attended West point, which is a military academy in 1830.
Edgar Allen Poe married a beautiful girl named, Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe when she was 13 years old. He met her when she was seven. Before they became husband and wife, they were cousins. Poe was 27 years old when they married. First they married in secret, then came out to the public in May 16, 1835. Poe and Virginia loved one another, but that did not stop Poe from flirting with other women. Though, Virginia knew of this and did not feel threatened, it still hurt her feelings. Virginia, unfortunately, got Tuberculosis and died on January 30, 1849. Edgar Allen Poe was devastated. Many say he wrote many poems and writings about his love for Virginia or about her death.

No one to this day knows why Edgar A. Poe had died. Many people have made theories about his death. Most people say he died from alcohol, or got murdered. But we don't know for sure. The day before his death, it was said he repeatedly called out to a ‘Reynolds’ which to this day is still a mystery. But it was also said that he kept going in and out of consciousness and could never explain his death or talk. People also think rabies would be a reasonable explanation for his death.
