This dark style can be seen in short stories like “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Cask of Amontillado”.
Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. He was an American writer, critic and editor but was best known for his poems and short stories. At a young age, Edgar grew up to rough circumstances. Poe’s mother was a teenage widow when she married David Poe, and Edgar was their second son. Poe’s father had a fairly good reputation as an actor, but he had an even wider reputation as an alcoholic.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809 and started writing at the age of 18. In 1836 he married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia Clemm.

I believe this because of his poems, “The Tale-Tell Heart”, “The Raven” and many others that have good writing that captures the reader’s attention and fear. For example in the “Tale-Tell Heart” this line “True!-nervous-very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am! ,” is one that makes some readers scared or send chills up their spines. I probably would read more of Poe’s work because he is a great writer that gives readers a great clear image of the events in his stories.

After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.
