Is General Zaroff’s game fair? In the story The Most Dangerous Game Zaroff’s game is unfair. Reasons it’s unfair are, Zaroff has a pistol while Rainsford has a hunting knife, Zaroff has home advantage, the dogs get sent out if Zaroff has trouble finding you. First example of how the game is unfair is how Zaroff has a Pistol while Rainsford has a hunting knife.
To get something in life you have to push for it and persevere to get it. For example in Fever,1793 when Mattie tells Eliza “we’ll take them the coffeehouse!” She had to push and preserve to get Eliza to take the kids to the coffeehouse. When you work and persevere for what you want, you can usually get it.
Silence on the mountain was a book written by Daniel Wilkinson. In his book, Wilkinson chronicles the guerilla warfare and massacres that occurred in Guatemala during its 36-year conflict, starting in the late 1950s with a U.S backed rebellion that installed a militaristic government, overthrowing the one that was already in place. During the conflict, hundreds of thousands of people were killed and disappeared. Wilkinson sought to discover the untold stories of the conflict, which had not been covered to the extent that it should. One of the periods in the conflict that Wilkinson focused heavily on was the early 1980’s because Wilkinson tried trying to search for the story behind a destroyed house which was located in a plantation.
‘Be Music, Night’ by Kenneth Patchen is an intriguing piece of literary art. A picture is painted of human interaction with Earth immediately. The manner in which humans fall into her beauty and vastness is apparent in even the first lines of Patchen’s poem, but why is this important? “Be music, night, That her sleep may go Where angels have their pale tall choirs” This choir is brought on by our musical mother nature.
In the story “Fly Away Home” by Eve Bunting, Andrew and his dad are taught to keep on trying. A few examples of this are work through things and stay positive. Andrew and his dad do everything they can to manage in the airport and to get a house. This story has lots of examples of when they don’t give up.
I selected the novel All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr because in the summary the novel is said to tell the story of a blind girl and—having read once before a novel from the perspective of a blind girl—was intrigued to see the author’s take on it. The story begins in Saint Malo, France 1944 in the midst of WWII. It then bounces back 10 years to 1934 and with brief excerpts from the starting point tells the tale of how the narrators reached their predicaments. The two main narrators are Marie-Laure, a sixteen-year-old blind French girl, and Werner a sixteen-year-old German boy who excels with radios. There are also five other narrators that are not constant but provide context as to how main events occur.
The song “Under the Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is an emotional piece. I know that this was not originally written as a song, but rather as a personal poem that Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer, wrote for himself about his hardships as a heroine addict years ago. In this song, Kiedis sings about how the only thing that loves him is Los Angeles, the “city of angels.” The lyrics, “I drive on her streets ‘cause she is my companion, I walk through her hills ‘cause she knows who I am,” are interesting because he refers to LA as a “she.” I think that Kiedis was having a hard time connecting to people, therefore, he considered LA to be the only thing he was actually comfortable being himself with.
For instance, not even the troubling time of the depression can stop you or get in the way of your drive to succeed. You just have to believe that in the end that is all you can do when you have nothing. You have to trust that you can get through these hard
The film “Solitary Nation” by Dan Edge had an impact on me as I was watching the film of the inmates’ lives in solitary while a new warden is trying to make a change for them. Although it was similar to other prison documentaries, it had more of a closer view to solitary than the normal prisons. It provided evidence of how torturing it could be after a certain time, and how the world is constantly full of that nature no matter what measures are taken. It depicted the causes of solitary on the inmates’ behavior, and how contradictory it is to have solitary confinement. Should solitary still be used as a way of punishment?
Perseverance may seem difficult at times, but in the end it is what will make people satisfied with their own
The mistreatment of Indigenous people in Canada is a leading factor in the loss of their identity; a tragic consequence of colonialism and systemic injustice. “Totem” by Thomas King, an American-born novelist and member of the Order of Canada, conveys the message of the mistreatment of Indigenous peoples by the government with the use of various literary elements. King voices his opinions about the government’s terrible and shallow decisions they make and solutions they come up with. Comparatively, “I lost my talk” by Rita Joe, a Mi'kmaw poet and member of the Order of Canada, also speaks of the tragedies that the Indigenous peoples have faced, but through a more personal lens where she talks about her experiences as a former student of Shubenacadie Indian Residential School. Although "Totem" and "I lost my talk" differ in their usage of tone and imagery, they both
As I read about “relentless” by Robert Staub, I already began to picture in my mind how it applies towards my life and my personal persistence and determination. I think everyone goes though different stages of life where things get extremely difficult and stressful. It’s so easy to just give up and find another way but it’s not my style. To me that’s what life is, moving though challenges and rough patches it’s the best learning experience there is.
The book Into Thin Air is a book that outlines the Mount Everest disaster, as factually correct it can. However, there is a person that is too blame for this disaster to happen. The main person responsible for the deaths of the Mount Everest disaster was Robert Hall. However, that does not mean Robert Hall was the only one at fault. Ultimately the blame falls on Ang Dorje, Robert Hall, and Ian Woodall, each for their own reasons, and ultimately Hall, and Fisher were responsible for the others.
Support: Eric Thomas, the author of the book ‘The Secret to Success’, once said about success that whatever paths taking us to success, at some point we all have to go through the boulevard of hard work. Example: If you want to achieve success, hard work and dedication are the second element after explicit plans. In addition, we had better take responsibility for our tasks. None can help us to fulfil our targets but ourselves, hence learning to bear responsibility is very essential.
As we all know, the way to success is full of obstacles and difficulties, and you need to try your best to handle these problems and persist achieving final goals. There are many examples such as Thomas Edison, one of the greatest scientists in the world, spent several decades inventing the battery. Though he failed so many times, he never gave up but persisted testing for thousands of times, and finally he succeeded in inventing the battery. However, if he gave up when he faced problems, we cannot enjoy the benefits of the battery as so early. What makes him a giant in the invention field is that his
