Educating Esme is an awe inspiring book that has given me a unique view of what it is like to be a teacher. Her story would be good enough to turn into a movie is inspirational and powerful. Esme was very ambitious and it served her well in her fight against the administration, tough kids, and the accepted flawed norms of teaching. She truly overcame obstacles to be a marvelous teacher. I would advise anyone who wants to make a difference in the world to read this book and be amazed. The book starts off with a twenty-four year old woman who is hired by a principal named Mr. Turner to help open a new school. She showed patience and understanding to get to know each student. I think that is so important because many times teachers don’t. She showed that teaching is an art that is not easy to replicate. In my experience i had teachers who just talked but they didn't teach. Many people can just read out of a book, or make student memorize words but actually teaching is something different. Reaching kids especially in her area can be tough. Many of the kids parents are working tireless barely making ends meet, and the kids don't have an active role model to do the things that need to be done in order to give the kids a chance in the future. Her role in the kid's life cannot be understated. Another thing that struck me was how she was against conformity in the school curriculum. I loved this because she understands that conformity is the opposite of creativity. Her out of the box thinking and lessons to teach her students is something all teachers strive for. She understood that one size doesn't fit all and you can't teach kids to a standar. You must teach the kids based on the indivudial kids theirselves. I hope to institute her out of the boxing thinking in the classroom but in every aspect of my
