Our current education system is failing and it wasn’t always failing, during the Cold War or the Space War the United States education system was on par with other country with global education ranking.
Viswanathan states during the Cold War that we see as a nuclear arms or space race, but education were doing great at time. “Harvard and other American universities competed against schools in other countries to reach a perpetually rising bar in the battle for superior education.” Jencks states that “We didn’t want to be behind in anything, least of all behind the Soviets.” Harvard College Class of 1958 launched a program and it was the “most ambitious fundraising campaign ever.” The program announced it was aiming for quantitative needs, while students were criticizing that the program only went for quantity over …show more content…

The 4 tax benefits for helping family are American opportunity credit, student loan interest deduction, lifetime learning credit, and tuition and fees deduction. The American opportunity credit is when more than one person in a household is pursuing a degree this year. The family can possibly can get up to $2,500 in credits and every student must be enrolled in one of their first four years of postsecondary education during the tax year. Student loan interest deduction is a deduction up to $2,500 in interest paid on a qualified student loan during tax year. Lifetime learning credit is similar to the American opportunity credit, the only difference is there is no limit to how many years this credit can be claimed, but the credit is slightly lower than $2,000. Yet, the family applicant cannot claim both the lifetime learning credit and the American opportunity credit at the same year. Tuition and fees deduction let the family applicant that doesn’t need to owe a lot in taxes, a tax credit may not do as much a deduction, but any saving is good.
