Raised in a hardworking family, all I can remember is a happy childhood with parents who loved me and loved God. I did not have to worry about working in order to provide for my family at such young age, as my parents did. Their childhood was not as easy as mine. My parents came from big families with a poor background. My grandparents did not attend High School; therefore, education was not really important to their families. My father has six siblings; he is the second oldest. When he turned 7, he started to work in order to help his family; hence, he had a difficult childhood. The difficulties they endure, led them strive to give a better future to my two siblings and myself. Furthermore, their experiences have made them become more sensitive to help those who are in need. For the last 22 years, my parents have provided, protection, and care for the orphan and the fatherless through our ministry called Nuevo Reto. They are God-fearing and God has always been the center of our family. By their example, I have learned to be content with little and be content with much because everything we have it’s a blessing. I also have been taught that while achieving formal education and a career is crucial, it’s more important to grow spiritually as a person.
