Effective teaching methods are important in a teacher’s training and in student’s understanding of the lesson. Without different teaching methods, it would be difficult for students to learn the objective in class. Clear objectives allow teachers to monitor students progress to see how much they have improved over the year. In Gaithersburg high school, different style of teaching methods is performed to teach various kinds of students with special needs. This can increase behavior management in making good choices in order to achieve their goal.
One specific classroom management techniques I have seen my host teachers do effectively to manage the classroom environment is “daily checks.” Daily check is a method to make sure students are doing their work. Using hand signals will help students to understand that it is time to quiet down or to remind them to use their indoor voices. Even when the teacher claps her hands is a fun way to stop and regain the student's attention. By having a well-designed, engaging lesson, students will not get bored or distracted as much. They will listen to directions, especially if the activity is a hands-on project. They will learn to be creative and collaborate with their classmates. This will help them make good choices as they see other classmates successfully completing their work. In addition, another strategy used in their classrooms is when taking away certain privileges. This strategy is more for older students in high school. If students refuse to listen or follow directions the teacher takes away computer time. This will remind the student that whenever they misbehave that it is wrong and that they should try to change their behavior into a positive
