As much as teamwork is important and has been noted to be one of the vital roles and keys to the success of great and successful companies, team members in the team must perform their roles and responsibilities in order to achieve uncommon results. Every efficient team has a good and effective leader. A team leader is a person who guides, directs and instructs members on a team which enables the team achieve desired goal. The main role of a team leader is to ensure that goals and tasks are achieved by maximising resources available. A good team leader must also demonstrate good organisational skills. This helps the leader to plan targets and develop solutions and strategies in addressing them which makes team members confident about their roles and responsibilities in achieving desired goal. Also, confidence and respect must be vital qualities of an effective team leader. A good team member must be confident in his decisions concerning the team and also confident in the abilities of members on the team. A good team leader must also show respect to members on the team by treating them with respect, encouraging them and empowering them to offer their ideas or suggestions. This affects the growth of the team positively and also makes members on the team recognise the fact that their efforts and ideas are respected. For example in care home, a cleaning supervisor is responsible for managing cleaners working as a team and must see to it that cleaners perform assigned roles and tasks effectively. A supervisor supervising a team of cleaners in a care home must prioritise workloads, ensure that tasks are completed within the given time frame, produce rota, plan holidays and also make arrangements of cleaners who will cover during periods of holidays or annual leave taking into consideration the preferences and input of team members. This enables the team to be organised and also perform their roles effectively. Ineffective planning and organisation of workloads might result in the poor execution of work, stress and pressure as a result of an unpleasant work atmosphere. Also a supervisor must work effectively with members on the team. The cleaning supervisor is expected to collaborate with cleaners by fairly assigning tasks to cleaners which is geared towards maintaining high sanitary conditions in the care home.
