Marijuana Effects
Marijuana is a harmful substance to ingest. The WebMD website’s article about recreational marijuana, written by, Kathleen Doheny explains: marijuana irritates the lungs which causes breathing problems, it is harmful to mental health, and it can cause brain impairment to the user.
First, marijuana causes lung irritation which can cause numerous breathing problems. Smoking marijuana can cause three times more tar to be ingested into the user’s lungs, compared with tobacco users. The smoke of marijuana contains cancer-causing elements. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse: “Marijuana smokers inhale 70% more cancer- causing elements than tobacco smokers do.” The effects of smoking marijuana can be very similar to the effects of smoking tobacco. The breathing issues that can arise are frequent coughing and phlegm, a greater risk of lung infections, and more recurrent lung illnesses. Research still hasn’t shown whether or not marijuana will increase your possibility for lung cancer, though.
