Abstract
This paper will show how social media can hurt and help employers and employees in the workplace. The effects of social media start with Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram just to name a few. While posting outside of work could jeopardize a person position it can help also help the employer as well as long as it is doing something positive that will reflect the company in a positive light. Social media can increase business for companies that use the different avenues to increase revenue. Social media can get a lot of people in trouble to where they are fired from their jobs, because of something they had posted on their personal social media page. It is hard for any person that works in front of a computer to work eight hours straight and stay focused on the task at hand. In today’s world a person break consists of social media. One in 4 workers admitted that during their workday, they will spend at least an hour on personal calls, emails or texts, according to a separate CareerBuilder survey. Twenty-one percent estimated that they spend more than an hour on the internet, looking at pictures and posting status (www.cnbc.com/2016/02/05/how-using-social-media-can-get-you-fired.html;StacyRepacon). There are several reason that social media mistakes can get you fired, but I am only going to list six:
1. Making racist, sexist, or other offensive comments or statements
2. Complaining about your job
3. Sharing confidential
