There are a million and one things that scientists and experts are deeming harmful to ones health. Some of the more common are smoking drinking and doing drugs. There are many not so common or not so obvious ones such as the consumption of soda. Millions of people drink soda and never give it a second thought. However, the more health conscious a person is the more learned they are on the harmful effect of consuming soda. Three such harmful effects are tooth decay, osteoporosis, and sugar overload. In a single can of soda there’s anywhere from 10 to 12 teaspoons of sugar (Kaplowitz). Soda is one of America’s most commonly consumed beverages, a beverage that takes a toll on the teeth of many Americans. Enamel, the hard white substance covering the crown of teeth, plays a very important roll in preventing tooth decay; and protects the inner layer of teeth that is very sensitive. Drinking soda is so harmful to an individuals teeth, it’s equivalent to drowning a candy cane in a bucket of soda. The layers of the candy cane will start to peel off little by little until there is no more, that is the same effect over time that soda has on the enamel of one’s teeth. …show more content…

It is the high phosphoric acid levels that accompanies excessive soda intake that makes men and women prone to this condition.
