Sydney and the rest of Australia have many natural resources that all have positive and negative effects of itself. Sydney’s economy is resources dependent which means that if the resources in Australia were depleted, the Australian government would suffer. Coal, which Australia has a lot of, is mostly located in eastern half of the country, in places like Sydney. Only one third of the Australian coal is used in Australia, the rest of the coal is sold to places like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Western Europe which helps the Australian government exponentially. Natural gas is also abundant in Australia but far away from urban areas like Sydney so they constructed a large pipeline system to transport the natural gas to Sydney to heat homes and other activities. When you burn fossil fuels, CO2, a chemical compound is released into the air, which rises into the atmosphere. The sun rays that reflect of the surface of the earth are filtered by the atmosphere to ensure that earth never gets to hot or cold. However, when excessive amounts of CO2, which is produced by cars, industrial facilities & power stations, and domestic and commercial activities, is in the atmosphere, the filtration of the suns rays is sent out of whack and excess heat returns to earth. This effect is called “The Greenhouse Effect” because it makes earth like a green house, trapping in all of the heat.
