Not too long ago there was a time where everyone didn't have a smartphone. Now you see them everywhere and people are too wired to their cell phones, making people text and drive, hurts relationships and leading them to have anxiety and depression. Texting and driving people do it because they are addicted to their phone. Nearly 330,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving (“Texting and Driving Accident Statistics”). I personally been in a car accident due to my friend being too addicted to his phone. Since my friend was texting and driving, he lost trust from me. People are always posting a picture, tweeting, snapchatting not enjoying the moment with their loved ones; 2.8 billion snaps are being posted every day (“Are We Too Wired”). I been to plenty of events where everyone is not interacting within each other because they are checking social media. My friends family has this rule where you can't use your phone during dinner because they use it too much and wants to have conversations within each other. Anxiety and depression and how does it correlate with some using their phone too much; the University of Michigan, suggest that increased Facebook usage contributes to anxiety and even depression (“Are We Too Wired”). The reason why they think this is because people are looking at other people life that are better and this makes the person depressed by not having the things the other person has. Evidence suggests that the negative effects of smartphone use might also extend into the realm of mental health backing up my statement(“Hunley”).
