In the Book of Exodus God calls Moses up into the mountains for a different reasons than that of Abraham. Scripture says, “On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. And when they set out from Reph′idim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mountain. And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my own possession among all peoples; for all the earth is mine, and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. …show more content…

In this passage God instructs Moses to tell His people how to remain faithful to God. This passage shows that God calls people to go up into the mountains (in a spiritual sense) to be instructed and guided by Him, to know the truth and the surest path to following him. Later in the Book of Exodus Scripture states, “on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.” (Exodus 19:11). But the people were also instructed to not go up into the mountain until the Lord allows them to, for a border to be put between them and God, for them to remain clean and be ready for the Lord (Exodus 19:12-15). God knows that we cannot reach him without his help, so he chooses to come down to us, to reach us at our level, and when we are ready to bring us up with him. He is a loving and patient Father. This border that is between us and God is sin. We cannot ever begin climbing the mountain of the Lord (eternal life and unity with God) until the border of sin is
