Most serial killers normally have terrible childhoods. Albert Fish was abused at an orphanage after his parents left him and the beatings were so bad that he became a masochist8. They normally have a history of abusing animals such as Edmund Kemper who buried a cat alive9. They are mostly young adults, but there are some expectations. For example, Faye Copeland was sixty-eight when she started killing10. Most people think of serial killers as some sort of genius. This is not true in most cases. They pick on people they know would not be missed if they went missing. Samuel Little killed mostly prostitutes, as the cops did not care to investigate them11. They were sentenced to be burned alive, though Gilles requested that part of his body stays intact23. A lot of Gilles’ history is based on legend, with some people believing he was innocent, even when he went in depth with the details of his murders. But he is not the only serial killer surrounded in legend.

Elizabeth Bathory was known as the Blood Countess and one of the biggest monsters in the 16th century. She is the most prolific female serial killer in the entire world if the stories of her are to be believed, since her kill count is over six hundred, according to some researchers24.

According to legend, she became obsessed with blood, after drinking it while having a seizure25. She developed psychopathic ideas after seeing servants being beat up and seeing a man being sown into a horse26. When she got married, her husband Ferenc Nadasdy increased her level of violence by examples such as castrating a man and having him fed to dogs for having sex with his wife27. After Anna Darvolya taught her the joys of killing, Elizabeth became a full-on killer when her husband's death pushed her to the edge28. With the help of Ilona Jo and Anna Darvolya, she would kill and torture hundreds of young girls with needles, and even ripping of their body parts29. To make matters worse, she opened a school for young girls, which lead to many parents losing their kids. She would tell the parents that one of the kids went crazy and killed the others30.
