Firstly, in order to identify a solution we must pin point the main problem areas. Many reports would suggest that the core of over-crowding lies within our emergency departments and the unsatisfactory methods of managing patient flow. The main objectives of emergency rooms is to provide continuous access to healthcare twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week three hundred and sixty five days of the year, however unavailability of hospital beds has become a major difficulty, resulting in compromised patient care and safety. Error in health care usually has a ‘domino effect’ in that one small problem usually leads to another and another and so on.
