Emily Bronte
Emily Bronte was an English writer known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, and by being one of the Bronte sisters. Besides Wuthering Heights, Emily has written a few poems under the title “Poems of Solitude.” Solitude is a topic that Emily often wrote about and lived by. As a writer, Emily is often speculated by her limited family history, a few poems, and one excellent novel.
Emily Bronte was born on July 30, 1818 in Thornton, Yorkshire, England, and she is the daughter of Reverend Patrick Bronte and Maria Branwell Bronte. Emily is the fifth child of six, and her siblings are Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Branwell and Anne. Emily is not the only Bronte known for her literary success, both her parents and her sisters Charlotte and Anne all shared the creative talent of writing. Weakened by the birth of Anne, the sixth child, Emily’s mother was unable to fight off cancer and passed away only nine months after Anne’s birth. Elizabeth Branwell, her mother’s sister, came to live with the family to help care for the children.
Emily and her sisters, except for Anne, were sent to Cowan Bridge to attend the Clergy Daughters' School. While at school Elizabeth and Maria became extremely ill and died of tuberculosis in 1825. After that tragic event, Emily and Charlotte came home.
When she came back home, Bronte enjoyed reading and making up stories with her siblings. Emily, Charlotte and Branwell had extremely strong imaginations, and with those imaginations they created Gondal, a far-away land with kings, queens, princes, princesses, foes, traitors, and lovers. The land of Gondal was filled with castles, cathedrals, dungeons, warships and forest battles. Out of her siblings, Emily is the only Bronte who continued Gondal by bringing it to life in her
