Emperor Meiji had a political impact on the world because he created a new government style in Japan and transformed Japan into an industrial and military power. Emperor Meiji created a new government style based on the Meiji Restoration, which helped develop Japan into an extremely strong country. The Meiji era was between 1868-1912. During this era, Japan was reshaped into one of the most powerful nations. Emperor Meiji brought forth a lot of reforms to attempt to modernize Japan. One of the big changes was the abolishment of the social classes. Japan previously had 4 social classes the main one being the samurai class. During the Meiji Restoration, the 4-class social system was abolished, changing Japan’s society in a major way. The abolishment of the four-class social system, especially the samurai class, was one of the most instrumental changes to Japan as a society and as a country (“Perez” 85). Japan’s abolishment of the social class system had a significant impact on the country’s social development, due to it allowing greater opportunities for individuals to advance based on their worthiness rather than their birth status.
