Manager and Employee Issue Comparison Introduction In my current job, I am working a 12 hour rotating shift position. Preferably on each shift, they would like to have an average of 60 employees. There are four shifts; two night crews and two day crews. There are times where my workplace has our own issues. Some that will be discussed is alternative work schedules, transfers and restriction of overtime. Alternative Work Schedules Most work places has extended hours and shortened the number of days of work. I work in a 12 hour shift workplace; I believe that in the manager perspective this allows the workplace to be running alternative days and all day every day. Thus, workers will have the choice to apply to their choice of hours. Transfers In manager’s perspective, perhaps this is being loyal to those who have worked longer. But to Employers, there are two perspectives. The first is that, they would understand why they are being transferred. An employee who has worked longer does a better job and has a better understanding versus those who are new or recently hired. Others, may not like the idea of seniority and do not want to be transferred. The resolution to this is that the employers should consider all employees perspectives. Instead of transferring considering seniority, allow employees to make the choice first. Then perhaps, they could make their choice of transferring those they have to. Restriction of Overtime In my workplace, when there is mandatory overtime, the managers would alternate workers to work over time. We also offer sign up overtime, therefore employees would get to decide if they want to work over time. During mandatory overtime, employees are allowed to switch overtime days or give their overtime days to someone who may want to work the overtime days as long as it is reported to and accepted by the
