During the monster's life certain encounters with humans affected the monster's actions and behaviors. When Victor had fled his apartment, the monster had also fled in confusion upon Victor's reaction to him. In search of food the monster comes across a small village and comes in contact with his first first humans other than victor. When he stepped foot into the house immediately the children shrieked and even one of the women fainted. This alerted the whole village and many fled because of how terrified they were. This is now the second time that humans have been terrified of him trying to be friendly and he just wants to be accepted by the humans. (citation) After the monster left the village he came across a small cottage. The family who lives in the cottage is the De Lacey family, which includes the blind father, his son, Felix, and his daughter, Agatha. The monster decided to hide out in a hovel in which he will spend a few months in. During this time he was able to learn to read and write due to the fact of Safie’s arrival. While the De Lacey family was trying to teach Safie English the monster also was able to learn it at the same time by listening. “I learned and applied the words, fire, milk, bread and wood. I learned also the names of the cottagers themselves.” (Shelley 78). Most importantly the monster learned what family love looks like. Frankenstein’s monster sees the care and concern that the family members have towards each other and he has never had anyone love or even like him.
