Endangered Harlequins Once upon a time, there was a young prince called Albert. Before he became a king, he traveled through all known realms and even through the unknown ones. Due to these trips, the prince knew the strangest creatures. He lively talked to fascinating individuals called centaurs, half human, half horse who knew a lot about stars. He silently watched unicorns, which are beautiful but elusive white horses which, besides having a unique and elegant horn had magical powers. He breathlessly heard the chant of mermaids, exquisite women with fish tales and delightful voices capable of charming anyone. They all liked to be called simply rainbow trolls to avoid confusion. Female trolls didn’t mind having such a male name. In fact, they were always to joke about it, as well as any other thing around them. They were extremely aware of the importance of laughing at yourself. Albert was so delighted with these creatures, that when he was crowned king, he invited them to move into his kingdom. He told them that if they decided to accept his proposal, he would condition an area in the palace gardens and that they would be hired as the official harlequins of the realm. It wasn’t easy to persuade them to leave their beloved native land. The trolls gathered a council meeting to make a decision. They talked about the likable and enthusiastic young man who offered them a new job where being funny was the only requirement and this requisite was second nature to the trolls. After many days, the council decided to move into the prince’s realm, leaving behind their prosperous native land. The king had given them precise instructions to be harlequins to the town’s people as well as to the palace dwellers, and to think of the whole village as their stage, just as their native land was. From the rainbow trolls arrival, every day was a party in the realm. Sometimes when the peasants arduously worked, they could suddenly see a rainbow troll riding a pig and singing a funny song. Later in the day, they could see another one swinging from one tree to another hanging from a liana and screaming. At these unexpected comedy shows the locals laugh animatedly and then, continued their chores. When the women calmy chatted doing the laundry in the river, suddenly they could see a rainbow troll dressed as a baby in a ducky swimming ring, splashing some water on them. The women ended up soaking wet but happy. It wasn’t strange, to open a crock, enormous by the way, which was being dried under the sun by an artisan, to find a troll dressed as a female in pink who jumped out of the container desperately
