In my freshman year at Nicholls State University, I was required to take the course English 101. In this course, you learn the basics for writing an essay. You learn how to create a well-organized paper, how to pick your topic, and how to fix your grammatical errors. In this class, you learn multiple exercises to improve your writing skills. These are exercises that I will take with me in English 102 and from now on when writing a paper. Every class that we have had over the semester I have learned something new to benefit my writing skills.
Learning to keep your essay organized is simple. As long as you list your topic and know what you talk about it is easy. State your thesis and main ideas of what you will talk about in your paper. We learned how to pick our topic by listing things that pop in our head and eliminating things we really didn’t want to write about. Although I have never struggled with picking a topic, the class exercises have improved my ability to do so tremendously. These tools I have learned have increased my ability to quickly come up with a topic and ideas to include in my paper.

Having all of your main ideas and topics in order help the paper to flow and make sense. You start by choosing a topic. Once you have done that, you choose at least three things to describe your topic. You then, break each description down into a well formatted paragraph to help the reader better understand your topic. Once you have stated all of your descriptions and broken your topic down, you then have to come up with a conclusion paragraph. Your conclusion should flow everything together and give your opinion on the topic. The conclusion is one of the most important parts of your paper.
