English 11 Reflection

There is so much that I want to talk about regarding this quarter of English 11, so I guess I will start here. The first few weeks of class I thought that you, Ms. Buckler, were absolutely crazy with what you were making the class do. I believed that the weekly portfolios would be a waste of time, and that my writing was the way it had been my whole high school career and that was not going to change. It seems that I was wrong with my first impression of this. With just the seven portfolios that I have written my writing has changed greatly. Just the other day I have to turn in practically a whole book for a contest and a magazine writer told me that my style of writing was very well. The last few free writes that we have had were much more enjoyable to write since they were something I felt passionately about. I think over the past quarter my style of writing has become much clearer and flows more smoothly. Also I never knew what to look for while editing my paper until I started to print out rough draft and read over them. While reading printed rough drafts I notice awkward sentences, spelling errors, and most importantly missing commas. Another exercise that we do in this class is paragraph responses. Although this is a weak area for me I think that I have gotten stronger since the start of the year. I now know what a topic sentence should be and how to select good evidence to use. Also learning how to integrate quotes properly brought my writing to a new
