Environmental Effects Of The Industrial Revolution

176 Words1 Pages
The Industrial Revolution had major consequences of pollution created by the factories and impacted the environment heavily. As a result, people perceived the revolution as being detrimental. The air in the city was noticeably darker because it was filled with toxic gases and soot causing people and animals to become ill. The contaminated air caused rain to transform into acid rain which lead to the fresh water supply becoming polluted. Rivers were also contaminated by factories because of the effluent discharged into them leaving the pigment appearing brown. Professor Faraday described the rivers as, “[smelling] very bad…it was the same as that which now comes up from gully-holes in the streets; the whole river was the time a real sewer.”
