Women and men were never treated equally back in the day, but then came the day when women decided to speak and demanded to be treated as equal. They were determined to be granted that right, women believed that they should not be treated as less than men. Along with this fight for equality came protests and anything else that would help them gain that right. It took a long time and a lot of hard work for women to get the right they were demanding, but finally in 1972 the Senate passed the amendment and it was sent to the states for ratification.
The Equal Rights Amendment is an amendment that was proposed to grant citizens equal rights regardless of sex. Women can do the same things as men without being told not to do so. Women started this …show more content…

It order for it to be accepted it needed three- fourths of the votes which means 38 states out of 50, once it has the votes it will be added to the US Constitution. The deadline came to an end it only had the 35 votes, it needed three more states but it was short of ratification. Till right now it only has 36 votes and forty-five years have already passed and it still needs more votes. States do not want to ratify that amendment because many men do not believe that they should be treated equally. Since the amendment failed there are many consequences of that between the gender equality. With the failure of the amendment women are still sometimes discriminated or they are told that they could not do something because that is a man job. During that time there were protests done by women because they did not agree with what had happened. (Jessie Kratz) In today’s society they still see women as weak, and they have tried so hard to change that but actually it does not matter how hard they try because that is how they are seen by others. You can still see that there is a difference between both genders, yet women have tried to change that it has not occurred they still need more votes for that to happen. For example there is the Hooters case, that it does not hire male waiters only females. A man in Texas began a lawsuit because Hooters refuses to hire man, and that is because the famous restaurant only hires women because they believe that it attracts male into the restaurant. ("Texas Man Settles Discrimination Lawsuit Against Hooters for Not Hiring Male Waiters.") Man believe that they should also have a chance to get hired there because of gender equality but the restaurant thinks otherwise.
