The differences of another person is seen differently for different individuals. For instance, Erica Willis and Jolie Murray can be depicted in a crowd of many of their own peers. What their peers do not think of is their backgrounds and where they come from. Yes, they are truly different from one another, but their souls and compassion can be on the same scale.
One of the differences between Erica and Jolie are their backgrounds, more specifically their year(s) at Mt. Edgecumbe. Both have gone through some emotion that can be felt by everyone: the loss of family or friends, even more commonly, both. One of them almost lost two of their closest friend, while the other loved their family and friends at home so much they left a part of their heart. All the same time, they did find friends at Mt. Edgecumbe. They both are friends with each other and are happily sitting next to one another during class. Which is something they also share in common.

They both have a separate family away from their blood family. There is a saying that blood does not tell you who your family is, but the love, respect, and trust from your friends are your true family. Both have commented that they look for a certain group of friends. One would avoid the “psychopaths,” while the other would abstain from “mean people.” Furthermore, they both would be with a group of friends who can make them laugh.
Another comparison between the two are their love for fictional stories/shows. You can ask them, “of any of the fictional characters on either book or movie, who would you want to be, and why?” and you would get a different answer, however, their compassion for that character is phenomenal. They both can talk about their favorite fan fiction for hours on end. The information can be surprising for their peers, because it has something to do with time travel and/or different dimension
