The book I am reading is Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario. I predict that the author will explore the human rights issue of Immigration Laws and the plight of illegal aliens in the United States. I believe that this issue will be important in the story because Enrique the main character in the story is very driven to find his mother who has gone herself illegally to the United States to earn money to provide an education for her children and to better the life of her family. I made this prediction because Lourdes leaves her children in Honduras as she goes to make money in the United States and her son Enrique is left saying “Donde esta mi mami?” “Where is my mom?”
Estevan is a trained English teacher but is working nights at a restaurant to make money since he can not get a real job because he is an illegal immigrant. They also have very little possessions in their name compared to how normal families live. This is shown when Estevan and Esperanza are leaving with Taylor to go to a safe house in Oklahoma. “Estevan and Esperanza had one suitcase between them and it was smaller then mine... From this, her first impression and ignorance over the topic of boys and having the thought process that girls and boys live in different worlds, awakens Esperanza and teaches her an important lesson and becomes to an eyeopening experience.

They assume that she does not leave the house because of that. The reality according to Esperanza is that she does not leave the house because she misses Mexico and does not know English. Mamacita misses a home, yet is constantly arguing with her husband because she is home. She struggles with accepting her home and does not realize that her home is where she is. Even though she misses Mexico and does not know English, she can still leave her house.
