America: The Beacon of Hope To many, America is considered the greatest country in the world; a place where anyone’s dreams can come true, a beacon of light in a world of oppression. What does it mean to be an American today? Being an American isn’t hard,but sometimes people just like to not follow things. Being an American can mean many different things all depending on the different perspectives of different ethnic or religious groups. So what does being an American mean to me? Being an American to means that everyone can live a happy stress free life where they don’t have to worry about being discriminated against or feeling like they don’t have equal rights. To start with, being an American can range in definition depending on a person 's perspective of America. Personally, I would say being an American is when you can live a happy life where you don 't have to worry about being treated differently because of the color of your skin.
When I was six years old, living in Ethiopia, my dad won an American green card visa lottery among 53,000 people. Although it was exciting news, family members were discouraged because my dad could not afford the visa processing and traveling expense. However, he found a sponsor in Seattle, which allowed him to settle in America. As soon as he found a good house and a stable job, he started the process for me and my family. Multiple errors and obstacles delayed our processing for five years.
America’s gift to my generation is our natural rights. One reason why basic rights is a gift to my generation is because we have the right to life, giving us the ability to feel safe wherever we go. Another reason is because we have the right to liberty, that gives us many rights to choose. One final reason is the right to pursuit of happiness, giving us the ability to be happy. First is our right to life.

My Responsibility to America Responsibility is a big word. It’s the kind of word that can make people clammy. Often times, it calls images of grandiose obligation into one’s mind. It doesn’t have to be like that. Having responsibility to your country doesn’t mean that you have to join the military or become a politician.
What have you found is the same about your millennial generation across the cultures of the world and what is different? American culture has a heavy influence in the culture of the country I am from, Costa Rica. That influence has been apparent since many years back, but since the rise of the internet that influence has become stronger. The rise of the internet and the international communications matches with the birth of a new generation, the millennials. We were born in the era of globalization and electronic communication.
From my entire life, I believe that no matter how big or small a dream may be, each one possesses significant meaning into shaping ourselves and the world. I have always placed myself as the lowest priority for everything: money and notoriety signified little value to me in the grand scheme of life. All I dream is simply to help other people, while in the process to become a better person. From living in the small city of Pittsburg, I am overwhelmingly blessed to be enriched with the surrounding diversity of various cultures and languages. This has contributed to further embrace my own Filipino heritage and openly share it with anyone.
America, the land of the free, does this reign true after the years of war and amendments to the Constitution that have been implemented? Our nation has gone through so many changes. Is there even a resemblance to the original system the framers of the Constitution envisioned? The majority of the Constitution has remained constant over the years, and those changes that have been made were for the amelioration of the country.
