In the essay, “Homeless Nation: Producing Legal Subjectivities through New Media,” by Suzanne Bouclin, the author describes a non-profit organization called “Homeless Nation.” The intent of this organization is to allow the street community to tell share their stories and allow the homeless to finally have a voice. This will be done through a social media site. On this site, the street community can post video content, their poetry, different images, and upcoming rallies. By allowing this to happen for the street community, they will learn life skills in social media and be able to connect with other people in their society to see that other people may be going through the same experiences as them. Suzanne Bouclin’s findings made me realize all of the different ways that social media can be utilized and impact our community compared to the way most people, as well as myself, use it. The people of “Homeless Nation” use this site so that they can have a voice and find their identity. This site is something special and important to the homeless people because it can help improve their life. According to the chapter, this website has allowed a few homeless men to attain a job. The street community uses this social media site for a reason that is much different from most people. Most people, including myself, use social media as a way to stay connected with friends and to create a better image of themselves. People like myself do not want to be left out of the loop and want to fit in with the crowd. We want other people to like us and be jealous of our lives. After reading this chapter, it makes me want to change the way I use social media to make it more meaningful. I waste so much time on social media looking at other people’s images and creating a positive self-image of myself with I could be impacting another person’s life by helping them find their identity or enhancing their life in some
