How did the Civil War impacted our Civil Right issues of modern time? In other word, how did the Civil War changed the right of African American? source#1: During the earlier time of the civil war, free black mans and escaped slaves were being banned to serve in the union military, however union needs stronger military to support them to defeat south. Lincoln administration suggested an idea to sign up 180000 new African American for military. During the process, he was also worried that this decision would encourage the border state to secede. The border state had slavery, however they fought for north. There’s 5 border states during that time, Delaware, Maryland, Missouri, West Virginia, Kentucky. However, African Americans faced additional situation that is based on the racial prejudice among white soldier. Even though African American was accepted by the federal law, still was not accepted by US white man’s society. It reveals the civil right of black America during that modern of time. Even now the racism discrimination still among most people. For example before the year that Johnson Lyndon has been elected as a president, the African American can’t vote, they have to pay if they want to vote, but during that time most African American is poor. Do they have the money to vote? No. Back then during Civil War, the data show there’s 10 percent of union army is covered by the African American, some come from loyal border state, some escape from south to north, some were born free in north.
