What Enables Humans to Remember Information?
We are able to process and store information such as names, interactions, conversations, and other life events in our minds. What enables humans to remember information? Memory is responsible for the ability to save and utilize information. It is like an album, comprised of a person’s life events and the information he or she has gained over time. However, people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease start to lose their memories and the ability to process information. Alzheimer’s disease not only affects memory, but also people’s personality and interaction with others. Occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease depends on many factors such as age, genetics, lifestyle, and other factors. Frequent brain activity and use of memory may prevent or delay memory loss and occurrence of Alzheimer’s. For example, bilingual or multilingual people have a higher brain activity due to extra vocabulary and language skills. Healthy lifestyle and multilingualism can prevent or delay memory loss and development of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Occurrence of dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases can be delayed in multilinguals. This trait is the result of high activity in some regions in brain such as medial temporal lobe and frontal lobe, both of which are associated with memory and cognitive function. Moreover, lifestyle and activity level have a direct impact on brain health and delaying of neurodegenerative diseases. Studies have illustrated that exercise and active life improves cognitive function and positively affects various aspects of health in elderly. Comparatively, healthy diets (e.g. Mediterranean diet) reduces risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Conclusively, lifestyle has a profound impact on reducing occurrence of dementia and Alzheimer’s
